WEEK 11 & 12: Birds and Hibernation

In Week 11 the children learn about all different kinds of birds, even penguins! In Week 12 (a short week), they learned about animals that hibernate.

Birds
Different kinds of birds (both local and non-local):
  • ziŋtkála - bird
  • tȟašíyagmuŋka (tȟašíyagnuŋpa) - meadowlark
  • maǧá - (generic) goose
  • maǧášapa - Canada goose
  • maǧáksiča - duck
  • tȟanáǧila - hummingbird
  • hiŋháŋ - (generic) owl
  • hiŋháŋ sáŋ - barn owl
  • čháǧa ziŋtkála - penguin
  • waȟúpakoza tȟáŋka - ostrich

Hibernation
The Hibernation Theme was during a short week ( only 2 days long).

Coloring Workbook
The children learned about animals sleeping and being awake. They did a short coloring workbook with animals that hibernate.

  • kiktá yaŋkÁ - to be awake
  • ištíŋmA - to be asleep
  • tukté - which
  • uŋmá - one of the two
  • tutké uŋmá - which of the two
  • šni - not [NEGATIVE marker]
  • Tukté uŋmá ištíŋma he? - Which of the two is sleeping?
  • Tutké uŋmá kiktá yaŋká he? - Which of the two is awake?
  • Tutké uŋmá ištíŋme šni he? - Which of the two isn't sleeping?
  • Lé kiktá yaŋké! - This (one) is awake!
  • Lé ištíŋme! - This (one) is sleeping!
  • Lé ištíŋme šni! - This (one) isn't sleeping!
