WEEK 13 & 14: Hibernation (pt 2) and Harvest (Corn)

In Week 13 we did more activities related to hibernation.

In Week 14 (week of Thanksgiving) we learned about harvest and corn (very short week)!

Hibernation Animals in Playdó
If you have play-doh, you can use it to make animals and talk about the animals when they hibernate:
  • Playdo kičhí škáta pe/po! - Play with Playdoh!
  • Tuwá kičhí škáta he? - Who is playing with Play-doh?
  • Playdo kičhí yaškáte háŋtaŋš, “playdo kičhí waškáte!,” eyá pe/po! - If you are playing with play-do, say "I am playing with play-doh!".
  • Ópȟo waŋží playdo uŋ káǧa pe/po! - Make an oval with play-doh!
  • Tuwá ópȟo waŋží playdo uŋ káǧa he? - Who made an oval with play-doh?
  • Ópȟo waŋží playdo uŋ yakáǧe háŋtaŋš, “Ópȟo waŋ playdo uŋ wakáǧe!,” eyá pe/po! - If you made an oval with play-do, say "I made an oval with play-doh"!
  • Waná pȟahíŋ waŋží playdo uŋ káǧa pe/po! - Now, made a porcupine with play-doh!
  • Ópȟo s’e káǧa pe/po. - Make it like an oval!
  • Heháŋl čhaŋsákala waŋžígži pȟahíŋ pamáhel iyéya pe/po! - Then, take little sticks one at a time and push them inside!
  • Tuwá pamáhel iyáyaya he? - Who pushed them inside?
  • Pamáhel iyéwaye! - I pushed them inside!
  • Kitaŋȟčiš itȟuŋkala ištá kiŋ ičúpi na pȟahíŋ akáŋ patítaŋ pe/po! - Take the little eyes and push them onto the porcupine.
  • Tuwá itȟúŋkala ištá akáŋ patítaŋ he? - Who pushed eyes onto it?
  • Akáŋ yapátiŋtaŋ háŋtaŋš, “Akáŋ wapátiŋtaŋ,” eyá pe/po! - If you pushed it onto it, say "I pushed it onto it"!

Harvest (Corn)
The children made many different types of corn with paper and glue. Here are some of the corn vocabulary that was used:
  • wagméza/wagmíza - corn
  • wahúwapa - ear of corn
  • waštúŋkala - dried sweet corn
  • wagmíza há - corn husk
Being Thankful:
There are quite a few different ways to say "thanks" or "thank you", here are some of them:
  • wóphila - thanks, gratitude, appreciation, gratefulness
  • Líla wóphila tȟáŋka héčha! - Many thanks!
  • wóphila yuhá - to have gratitude
  • Wóphila ewíčhawakiye. - I am grateful to them.
  • Wóphila tȟáŋka ečhíčiye. - I express great gratitude to you.
  • Wóphila tȟáŋka ečhíčiyapi. - I express great gratitude to you all.
  • philáyA - to make sb grateful/thankful for smth
  • Philámayaye - I thank you (lit: You made me grateful).
  • Philámayayapi - I thank you all (Lit: You all made me grateful).
  • Philáuŋyayapi - We thank you.
  • Philáuŋyaŋpi - We thank him/her.
